Signs of Overwatered Pothos and How to Save Pothos (Devil’s Ivy)

Pothos is known as a low-maintenance houseplant that can thrive with minimal care. It is a beautiful house plant. Epipremnum aureum is also known as the Pothos plant or ‘devil’s Ivy. But one of the best plant parents sometimes is overwatered Pothos. The frequency of watering this ease-care plant depends on some factors such as seasonal changes, pot size, soil type, humidity and indoor temperatures. Overwatering underwatering can cause issues like root rot, dead leaves etc. Though pothos (Devil’s Ivy) plants are fairly easy to take care of as they prefer indirect sunlight and infrequent watering.

Signs of an Overwatering
  1. Overwatered pothos plants are under a lot of stress, which makes them to be attacked by pests and fungi.
  2. Curled leaves can be seen when a Pothos is overwatered. The leaves will curl, in an effort to reduce the surface area and slow down transpiration.
  3. One of the most common sign that your pothos has been overwatered is wet and soggy soil. It shouldn’t feel wet if you stick your finger in the soil.
  4. Yellow or brown leaves are also a sign of overwatering in your pothos plant. Discoloration can show up in spots or throughout the entire leaf.
  5. If there is excessive water, the leaves will have a wrinkled appearance due to overwatering. Damaged areas will always affect the overall look of the pothos leaves.
Overwatering Solution

First step is to plant your pothos in a well drainage pot. Check if the soil is smelly, wet or moldy before planting. If the roots are rotting, then you must cut them. Using sharp and clean scissors, cut away any roots which are brown, slimy or mushy. Soil is need to plant pothos that absorbs and holds onto the water is more likely to give your pothos root rot. Leave your plant alone to recover from the trimming or repotting. Don’t water it for at least a week.
